Poem--You and I

The serene depths of the ocean,
Calm, though tempests rage;
The faith that sustains me—
I’ll never walk alone…
Through the stormy path of life,
Lord, ever—You and I.

The mountain scaling the sky,
No human power can shake;
The love that I can count on,
Behind me all the way—
Through the rough and the smooth,
Daddy, ever—You and I.

The earth with all her bounty,
Unchanging with all change;
The hand that rocked my cradle,
The heart that cannot hate…
Through the thorns and the flowers,
Mama, ever—You and I.

The stream grows to a river.
The river meets the sea…
The soul-mate Lord created
Together as but one…
Through joy and pain, hand in hand,
Love, ever—You and I.

From seed to tree and to seed again,
The cycle of life abounds…
To give to you as I was given,
To love as I was loved,
Through life’s unending mystery,
My child, ever—You and I.
